Therapy

Perinatal/Postpartum Counseling | What we talk about in session depends on what your goals are. We work collaboratively- We are not therapists who are going to nod and say “mmmhmmmm” or ask you to “tell me how that makes you feel” to everything you say. We understand therapy is a time and a financial investment and we want it to be useful for you. Your treatment also includes our collaboration with your other care providers such as your OB/midwife, psychiatrist, etc.

Clients tend to reach out for our help with EMDR treatment of birth trauma, their NICU experiences, fertility struggles, and relationships. We are also honored to work with clients who have/are experiencing perinatal loss or are pregnant after perinatal loss(es).

Taylor has found that she works very well with women whose own parents were nonexistent, absent, had substance use issues, or were emotionally/physically abusive. Together we talk about what your experience of being parented was like and how it impacted you, and then make a plan for how you want to parent.

Courtnee has found that in addition to parents, she works very well with people who have experienced sexual assault or are on the autism spectrum.

Workshops

Bringing Baby Home | Even the strongest relationships are strained during the transition to parenthood. Lack of sleep, never-ending housework and new fiscal concerns can lead to profound stress and a decline in relationship satisfaction — all of which affect baby’s care. Not surprisingly, 69% of new parents experience conflict, disappointment, and hurt feelings. The research-based Bringing Baby Home workshops prepare couples for life with baby and helps them be the best parenting team possible. In a relaxed and supportive environment, parents learn to strengthen their relationship and foster baby’s development during this challenging time. They build on what Dr. Gottman and colleagues found is the best predictor of marital adjustment after baby arrives: the quality of friendship in the marriage. You will also learn all of the up-to-date information on attachment and infant safety. This workshop combines scientific research and public education to improve the quality of life for babies and children by strengthening their families. It teaches new parents how to gain relationship satisfaction and create healthy social, emotional, and intellectual development for their children.

This course is appropriate for anyone caring for a child aged newborn to five years old. Biological parents, adoptive parents, foster parents, grandparents, and nannies encouraged to attend.

This workshop can be conducted in varying locations and is available to come to your school, church, community center, etc. This workshop can also be done privately in a “tutor-style” manner in your home or in a small group.
